maybe - my personal tastes don't quite match their sound at first impression (never saw them live or heard one of their records), but it seems that they are pretty good in doing their thing, which is surely of interest for many others in the community... (and i guess they're nice guys too, sending out their greetings regulary)?

I'll send out a bulletin and blog post concerning Madre on DRPT just to see what people say.

They were a big thing and they are back doing it in a very pro way. Our italian friends also have other interesting acts that should be taken into consideration when moving into deathrockin' matters such as Madre, Bohemien and Avant-Garde for instance. They have had other similar acts such as Chants of Maldoror and Le Vene Di Lucretia. One thing i'm sure, everyone that loves Rozz mostly loves Madre.

Chants of Maldoror (active)

Avant-Garde (active)

Christabel Dreams (active)

Would it be possible to raise from the 'dead', Il Giardino Violetto or Echoes of Silence?
http://www.myspace.com/ilgiardinovioletto (not active)
http://www.myspace.com/echoesofsilenceband (don't know)

These guys are also great! Synth post-punk legends, NEON.

I don't know but perhaps the guys at In The Night Time Records do know..

Then again you also have

If you're thinking in something bigger, Frank The Baptist always drags a big crowd, The Deep Eynde (as i feel there is a lack of ghoulies in the current lineup of bands for the fest) or....... bring back Corpus Delicti!

Added Christabel Dreams up there that seem quite nice and i've had some feedback Vendemmian would be interested in playing the ddf!

(fairly big band from the 90's now active) Vendemmian, UK

There are some recent performance vids on youtube and some old classics like

No. I don't care about old mediocre bands. Why not book a new and fresh band instead of a worn-out one? That goes for both Madre del Vizio and Corpus Delicti. Frank the Baptist is always a no. A big no.

Novocaine Mausoleum - I know all about the problems getting them to Lisbon but it would be great if it's possible.

Strange Dolls Cult - They've got some good basslines and some of the band members will be present at the festival since they play in Squishy Squid.

Nora Keyes - Not really deathrock but I think it will please fans of the genre. And me.

If you're booking old bands then Nervous Gender, Die Tödliche Doris and Guerre Froide would be pretty cool. Perhaps Absolute Body Control.

Loto Ball Show would be great. I suppose they would be interested in playing some European gigs to promote Levy on the Eyeway.

old mediocre bands! ok! dear polina, book please all new and fresh bands which make the biggest noise.. dont care if they play on the tins, yell instead of sing, have almost nothing with the real musicians, ... maybe we could make DDF in one big garage, no?

this is really ridiculous..

I have nothing against new bands, but sometimes I have got impression it is just about competition "who will make bigger noise"..

I got about 8 positive replies to the Madre del Vizio poll.

Thumbs up for Novocaine and Nora, i like Loto Show but Phantom limbs rocked best..

Is Kap Bambino confirmed? I'd like to see at least one 8-bit act Neutral

Between Guerre Froide and Excès Nocturne i would go with Exès for really nice Corine (singer) and beautiful dark sounds. I'm crossing my fingers for FRUSTRATION though.

Nervous Gender... nope. Medio Mutante, Zentrales Nerven System and Agent Side Grinder or A.B.C.

Here is a google map i've been working on, it has some hotels locations and venue|airport location plus, these googlemaps can be embed on any html page! Smile

This has nothing to do with the bands making lots of noise.

I don't think Madre del Vizio will have any major problems getting gigs around Europe. They are a rather well-known band with fans all over Europe. They will most likely attract a good amount of spectators to the local death rock club, whereas a new and more unknown band (or an old, obscure and long-forgotten one) wouldn't. It's much harder for those bands to get international gigs due to the expenses of traveling and being lesser known. If Madre del Vizio (or Corpus Delicti) is booked for the festival they will most likely take a spot from a new or less-known band that we wouldn't have the chance of seeing or get to know. Drop Dead has always been giving a chance for the new bands helping them into the scene by booking them for the festival or covering them in the magazine and I really hope and believe this will continue.

Old bands should be something special. Lene Lovich doesn't play many gigs around Europe so it was really cool seeing her last year. Kitchen and the Plastic Spoons is a once in a lifetime concert for most people. Those kind of concerts are really cool. If Madre del Vizio is going on tour they won't be one of those concerts, many people will have the chance of seeing them perform live close to their home.

As far as I know most members of Corpus Delicti are playing in a new band and I don't think they would be interested in re-living their old band. And why should they? They are doing new stuff that probably (and hopefully) are more interesting for them.

I mentioned a couple of bands that I think would be way more interesting and relevant. Bands that fit into the death rock genre such as Novocaine Mausoleum and Strange Dolls Cult, bands that can be considered old such as Nervous Gender and Guerre Froide. Bands that don't have the same chance of playing as many international gigs as Madre del Vizio. I'm pretty sure that most of the bands (if any at all) plays on tins. They definitely are as much real musicians as anyone else mentioned in this thread.

Phantom Limbs were great but the Loto Ball Show album is really great and should appeal very well to those who likes death rock.

And I would go with Guerre Froide but I suppose that's just a question about personal taste. Frustration would be great too.

Nervous Gender would be great since it's probably the only chance to see them play an European gig. Agent Side Grinder,Zentrales Nerven System and Absolute Body Control would be really cool! I don't know Medio Mutante that much but I would definetely see their concert if they are booked.

Personally, i don't like Madre del Vizio... really prefer La Vene di Lucretia...are they still playing?

And well...I'm also crossing my fingers for FRUSTRATION.

Saludos.

Edit: Thanks to Tiago for the map, it would be helpful.

I am interested in seeing Madre del Vizio. With that said, and if possible, I'd rather see Sleepmask, Avant-Garde, Throbbing Gristle (they're active and releasing new material), or Novocaine Mausoleum instead. (I know Novocaine Mausoleum is having difficulty acquiring a VISA though...) Chants of Maldoror aren't that bad either, and would be a nice addition to the roster.

Its not just about giving brand new band a chance Razz its about having good music period

Drop Dead has to be a balance between new and old. Of course one of the main goals is to book music we think is amazing and that doesn't get seen to much but its also important to have few bands that many people recognize so they have a better chance of actually getting on the plane and coming to the festival

what is the point of the best festival on each if there is only 5 people there to see it ?
